Recommended Blood Glucose Numbers – What are the Right Numbers?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Diabetes Guidelines

Depending on where you look, recommended blood glucose levels can vary. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) numbers differ from the American College of Endocrinology (ACE) guidelines. The ACE recommendations are more strict than the ADA’s. How do you know which to follow? Ask your healthcare provider which goals are right for you. The table below compares the two sets of guidelines for blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol.

How many times a day should you check your blood glucose levels?

I got that here..

http://ultraherbs.blogspot.com/2007/09/recommended-blood-glucose-numbers.html

Levels up to 100 mg/dL are considered normal.
Levels between 100 and 126 mg/dl are referred to as impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes. These levels are considered to be risk factors for type 2 diabetes and its complications.
Diabetes is typically diagnosed when fasting blood glucose levels are 126 mg/dl or higher.
[Note: mg/dL = milligrams per deciliter]
The total cholesterol values listed below are used to target therapy:
* Desirable: Under 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL)
* Borderline high: 200 to 239 mg/dL
* High risk: 240 mg/dL and higher

In general, your risk for heart disease, including a heart attack, increases if your HDL cholesterol level is less than 40 mg/dL. More specifically, men are at particular risk if their HDL is below 37 mg/dL, and women are at particular risk if their HDL if their HDL is below 47 mg/dL.
An HDL 60 mg/dL or above helps protect against heart disease.
Women tend to have higher HDL cholesterol than men.

A healthy LDL level is one that falls in the optimal or near-optimal range.
* Optimal: Less than 100 mg/dL (less than 70mg/dL for persons with a history of heart disease or those at very high risk for atherosclerotic disease)
* Near Optimal: 100-129 mg/dL
* Borderline High: 130-159 mg/dL
* High: 160-189 mg/dL
* Very High: 190 mg/dL and higher
[Normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories.]

Normal values of Triglyceride
* Normal: Less than 150 mg/dL
* Borderline High: 150-199 mg/dL
* High: 200-499 mg/dL
* Very High: 500 mg/dL or above
I am a diabetic patient for the last 17 years. I usually check glucose level once in a month and the the result is normal. I do not use anti-diabetic pills. I usually check lipid profile, HbA1c test, SGOT/SGPT (liver function tests) and Microalbuminuria test once in every 3 or 6 months. I consult the doctor every month.
Please see the web pages for more details on Cholesterol, HDL, LDL and Triglycerides.

healthcare coverage for diabetics? Is it safe to take insulin?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Diabetes Guidelines

I have type II diabetes and my insurance doesn’t pay hardly anything. My co pays are out the roof and we make too much money to get assistance. I haven’t been to a doctor in over two years or had any meds, or chem strips. My insurance company said I should give my self injections since insulin can be purchased over the counter, but I,ve only ever taken pills. Is there a safe guideline to do this? I’m having problems with my feet and I know my sugar is sky high. I really need advise.

I would never take insulin without consulting with your doctor first. It’s just to dangerous. Your doctor can tell you how much insulin you should inject and what type of insulin you need to use…

Not something you just want to play the guessing game with.

What do you mean by chem strips? Testing strips?

Goals of a Diabetic Diet

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Diabetes Guidelines

0 Goals of a Diabetic Diethttp://HealthyBalancedDiet.org/

The main goal of diabetic guidelines is to keep a diabetic’s blood glucose close as possible to a person without diabetes regardless of what type of diabetes a person has. But apart from this, there are other important goals such as:

● Protecting heart and ensure that cholesterol levels and blood pressure are within normal range

Having diabetes increases your risk of developing high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems, because diabetes adversely affects the arteries, predisposing them to atherosclerosis which is the hardening of the arteries. Atherosclerosis can cause high blood pressure, which if not treated, can lead to blood vessel damage, stroke, heart failure, heart attack, or even kidney failure.

● Keep the person on a healthy weight, if the person is obese, he/she should aim for an achievable, reasonable weight.

Adults who are overweight or obese are more likely to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes this type of diabetes that is most often diagnosed in adulthood. In fact, approximately 80% to 90% of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese. This is partly because excess body fat can cause insulin resistance, a situation where the body makes insulin but the tissues cannot use it properly to help take in blood sugar.

● Maintain adequate calories in your diet.

To keep your blood sugar levels in check, you need to make healthy food choices. A dietitian can provide in-depth nutrition education to help you develop a personalized meal plan that fits your lifestyle and activity level, and meets your medical needs.

Why is more Mercury allowed in Flu shots than what is legally allowed in a dump?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Diabetes Guidelines

Atlanta, GA — A prominent ad in today’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution sponsored by parents and friends of children injured by mercury in vaccines demands that a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory committee require complete removal of mercury from vaccines. The ad’s sponsors note that according to Environmental Protection Agency guidelines, a person must weigh over 500 pounds to safely absorb the amount of mercury contained in a single flu vaccine and that special hazardous waste sites are required for flu shot disposal.

To develop national vaccine guidelines, the CDC follows the advice of the 15-member Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) (www.cdc.gov/nip/ACIP/members.htm). To date, ACIP has refused to fulfill promises made by the government, physician organizations, and President Bush to remove thimerosal from all vaccines. “Mercury should never have been in vaccines in the first place. The fact that it remains in vaccines seven years after explicit promises were made to take it out amounts to government footdragging that puts children at serious risk of injury,“ according to Vicky Debold, PhD, public health nurse and mother of a vaccine-injured child.

A growing number of scientists are finding that the type of low-dose mercury in vaccines kills and injures brain and immune cells. “Considering that so many children now suffer from learning disabilities and a host of immune-mediated illnesses such as asthma and diabetes, the practice of injecting mercury into our nation’s most vulnerable is barbaric,” said Dr. Debold.

The ad also points out that most flu shots and some other vaccines contain 50,000 parts per billion mercury, despite requirements that landfill waste contain less than 200 parts per billion. “Directly injecting humans with a powerful neurotoxin flies in the face of common sense. With growing research from leading universities further confirming the neurotoxic effects of mercury exposure from vaccines, the ACIP must consider the best interests of our children and put an end to this dangerous and unnecessary exposure,” commented Dr.. Debold.

Basically the reason they do it…is: When Mercury is injected into your body, you, for the rest of your adult life…..sort of act as a THERMOMETER. With uncanny accuracy you can now tell the ambient temperatue in any environment within approximately 4 degrees, Farenheight or Celcius.

It’s incredible.

I’ve gotta go…..I feel a "Chill" coming on.
